Love Unbound

I think I threatened them.
Because I was free
& they chose to be bound
to colonial views of love
& life
& God.

I loved me so much I loved unbound.
& ain’t that power?
Ain’t that full
of beauty?

Of course they were threatened--
their love could never
survive
what they put me through.

But this isn’t about them.
This is about me.
This is about us.
We who refused self-severing
& are still here.

May we be blessed
& loved & loved & loved
*because* of how we were created.
Never despite.
