Genesis

I write queer psalms because I still believe in praise.
I write queer psalms because no one can take my God unless I give them up.
I write queer psalms because I refuse to give up God.

Isnt growing up always deciding which parts of our childhood to memorialize?

Take this body for example:
Body as a temple.
Body as a cage.
Body as a void.
Body as genesis.
Genesis as a synonym for queer.

On my best days I imagine a conversation with my M/other where I am more hers than abandoned infant.
Over coffee she would laugh
saying of course you’re queer
you were born Black
and the world responded how the world does.

Now child, tell me, where have you found love?

So I would show her:

Chapter 1

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2
3 God said, Let there be light.
4 and darkness.
5 Day Night. evening and the morning
6 And firmament and

7

waters
8 And Heaven.

9

land and
10 Earth and

Seas and
11 grass and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind

12 and the herb yielding seed

13 And
14

signs for seasons, and for days, and years
15

so.
16 God made two great lights to rule the day and to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 God set them in the firmament of the heaven

18

19
20 God

21 created great whales and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly and every winged fowl
22

23 And
24 And God Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth

25

26 God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness

27 So God created them.
28 And God blessed them,

29 God said, Behold,

30

there is life

31 And it was very good.

Chapter 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude.

You see all this space for tenderness to creep in?

There.
