This is America

This is America.
It always has been.
White people love watching Black bodies
lynched
and Black bodies open casket
street burials and operation rooms
fighting for life.

This is America.
Children getting front row seats to their parent’s murders.
Mothers becoming matriarchs by tragedy
And fathers frequent funerals
waiting on accountability that never comes.
Fear on the tips of our tongues
there is never enough lament in the world
there never seems to be enough justice to spare.

This is America.
It always has been.
Black bodies discarded carelessly
bullets piercing our hearts-
We can never get these fragments out.

This is America
it always has been
do not let anyone tell you differently.
If you are not angry and hurt
you are not paying attention.
Do not fall back into complicity
and leave us alone to fight for our lives.
